Kids Choice Awards Spectacles

Aside from Rosie O'Donnell, who has hosted the show eight times - more than any other Kids Choice Award host in the show's history - celebrity hosts are usually selected from among actors in upcoming movies that target youth audiences, which is turn provides a major venue through which to promote their soon-to-release films. Previous hosts have been chosen from voices of characters in Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda.
During the show, winners are revealed using various stunts as a deviation from the traditional sealed envelope of the "grown-up" awards programs - instead exploiting such surprise visual devices as balloons, T-shirts, drop-down banners, and the occasional figure of a foot.
In 2009, the Kids' Choice Awards introduced the Big Green Help Award - the recipient of which is honored with a green blimp rather than an orange one - to recognize a celebrity each year who has dedicated notable efforts to environmental consciousness. The first year's winner was Leonardo Di Caprio; the following year, the award was renamed the Big Help Award, honored with a silver-glittered blimp, and received by Michelle Obama.
Other blimps that have deviated from the original orange color have been the awards for Hall of Fame (gold, for singers, athletes or actors whose fame and achievements set them above all others) and Wannabe Award (silver, which replaced the Hall of Fame Award beginning in 2001) for stars or role models kids most want to be like), neither of which are still rewarded at the ceremonies. These and other special awards, such as the Big Help Award, have their honorees determined by Nickelodeon staff rather than the voting kids.
Record-breaking KCA Winners include Britney Spears who holds the record for the winner of the most Kids Choice Award blimp-kaleidoscopes in the history of the show. Will Smith has been the only winner of both the special Hall of Fame and Wannabe Awards. In 1996, Whitney Houston became the first celebrity to have hosted more than one Kids' Choice Awards show, having also hosted the previous year. However, Rosie O'Donnell holds the record for having hosted the greatest number of Kids Choice Awards ceremonies. Spongebob Squarepants holds the record for the most frequently rewarded show in the Best Cartoon category, with seven wins out of eight nominations.
Among the Kids' Choice Awards most unusual spectacles - and highest honors - are its unexpected onstage and off-stage celebrity slimings - and once, in 1992, an audience sliming instead. The slime tradition really elevates this event from your standard awards banquet. Hosts can traditionally expect to be slimed by the end of the ceremony, but other celebrities are not spared. In 2002, the Kids' Choice Awards introduced World Record Slime Stunts, involving extreme sports daredevils to conduct spectacular stunts that landed them in green slime, which would be integrated annually into each awards show. In 2006, the trigger for the sliming was being able to guess that year's "secret slime phrase." It took just about the entire show for someone to guess and finally receive his sliming - the correct guesser turned out to be Robin Williams.
