The History of Mickey Mouse

When people think of Walt Disney they almost always picture it's most famous character, Mickey Mouse who is know all around the world. The outline of Mickey's head featuring his large round ears have become the basic symbol for the company and appear on merchandise, Disney ornaments and at its theme parks.
How Mickey Mouse came to be is not crystal clear. The story seems to change based on who is telling it. Since all the parties involved and mentioned in the original creation of Mickey have passed away the absolute truth may never be known. Many claim that Walt Disney himself created the popular mouse. Disney is said to have drawn the cartoon mouse and his close friend Ub Iwerks revised the drawing into a form that would be quicker to draw. The personality and voice for Mickey were done by Walt Disney himself. Another story claims that Hugh Harman turned a picture of Walt Disney into Mickey. In any event this mouse started out as Mortimer Mouse until Walt's wife convinced him that the name did not match with the characters audience, and would sound too snobby. Walt Disney also has said that part of Mickey's personality was based on silent movie superstar Charlie Chaplin.
In 1928 the first short called Plane Crazy was made available but Disney was unable to find a distributor. A second short named The Gallopin' Gaucho also failed to find a company unwilling to distribute the cartoon short. In November 1928 Steamboat Willie became the first Mickey Mouse short to find a distributor. In November of 1928 the short became an instant hit and audiences loved that music and sound effects were used to add humor to the cartoon. This success encouraged Disney to adopt sounds into all future animations and the 1929 short The Karnival Kid featured Mickey's first spoken words. In 1935 a new animator redesigned Mickey to his more familiar appearance that we have grown to love today.
In 1978 to celebrate 50 years of Mickey Mouse he was awarded his own star Hollywood Boulevard, a first for an animated character. Over eighty years later Mickey Mouse is still around and new cartoons featuring the mouse are still being made. Currently the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, designed for preschool age children, is shown daily on Disney's own cable channel.
From a humble start Mickey Mouse has grown into an international cartoon icon. Today you can find Mickey Mouse on Christmas Ornaments, snow globes, and many, many other types of merchandise.

Tips on Practicing Guitar

These days there are tons of advertisements on the internet and in guitar magazines asking if you'd like to become a guitar hero in 'no time'. Well, the truth is this makes for sensational advertising, but unless you're Eric Clapton, you'll need some time to harness those skills. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you're practicing.
Unlike those adds, your motto for practice should be slow and steady. When you play through a song quickly frequently what happens is you'll muddle a little segment, but it doesn't stick out in your ear because you've already moved on to the next part. Playing slowly ensures all the parts of the song are clear, and if there's a spot that's difficult that's ok! You're practicing, you're not playing at Carnegie Hall yet. You're supposed to make mistakes, but you can identify them better when you slow down.
Also, and this surprises beginners, it's harder to play a piece slowly! Time and rhythm is what separates people who can kind of play and good musicians, and you can't be considered a good musician if your timing is off. Learn to play a song slowly and gradually you can speed it up as you improve. Always begin slowly! Count out loud, stomp your foot, have your teacher count for you, do whatever you must but make sure that the timing is good and consistent!
Beginners are often confounded when they put their finger down and it doesn't make a clear sound. This can happen for a few reasons. Make sure your finger is near the fret, but not on it. Sometimes this can create a buzz. Next, make sure you're playing with the tips of your finger, not the flat part. This ensures that only a minimal part of your hand is touching the string, meaning you're less likely to be inadvertently touching another string. Sometimes another part of your hand is touching another string, resulting in a buzz. The key is to remember that your fingers may feel like they're making an impossible stretch, but in time they become more flexible, and the position becomes a lot more comfortable! It's discouraging at first when the position seems difficult to maintain and to remember, but after repetitive, slow practice it becomes second nature. But don't rush! Patience is the name of the game.
Having a teacher or an experienced player around is always a terrific idea if it's possible. It ensures you don't pick up any bad habits. When you internalize a bad technique it can be hard to expunge. Frequently the hardest thing for beginners, after they've got their notes clear, is strumming. Stick to one simple, consistent pattern that works well with a number of tunes. Once you practice it over and over again you'll want to do something more advanced, and you might even be adding to it on your own! This is good. A good example is down, down, up, up, down. It works with nearly every 4/4 song and it's a good place to begin. And most importantly, have fun!

The Best Hip-Hop Album of March 2011 - Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme by Reks

Aiight, let's keep it going.
March saw some very disappointing releases such as Snoop Dogg's Doggumentary which is as corny as the title, E-40's Revenue Retrievin' and Bizzy Bone's Mr. Ouija among several others.
Many people claim that my ear has an East Coast bias and I wouldn't attempt to completely refute that but I have no problem acknowledging great hip-hop no matter where it is from.
With that said, I am going to have to go with another East Coast artist for this month's choice of best hip-hop album of 2011 and I am going to chalk it up to a resurgence of outstanding rappers from the East and the fact that the West has simply gotten lazy with the beats and rhymes. Just the cycle of things I suppose.
Whatever it is I am happy to scrounge the internet, turn over garbage cans and lift rocks to find that good hip-hop that we all deserve because the current "radio" stations certainly aren't going to do anything except spoon feed us corporate sponsored trash that some surfer dude is now selling as cool.
I going to have to take a pass on all that and continue to bring you these reviews and allow you exposure to artists you may never have heard of so that you can decide for yourself and get blessed with real hip-hop.
With no further ado the best hip-hop album of March 2011 is Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme by Reks and he won by a mile.
Straight out the box Reks hits you over the head with a joint produced by DJ Premier titled 25th Hour and while deftly embracing a by gone era of hip-hop Reks hangs ten on Premo's sonic tsunami of cuttin', scratching and sampling.
The rest of the album brings the same force with production by Statik Selektah, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Hi-Tek, Fizzy Womack, Blaze P and Mike Frey making for an album with only three joints out of sixteen coming up slightly short.
The album is fire and just in time for the spring.
My favorite songs The Underdog produced by Blaze P and Cigarettes produced by Fizzy Womack and featuring lil' Fame from M.O.P. And should be the next releases if the folks at Brick Records really know what's good and want to make this cat a star.

American Idol: Where Do Broken Hearts Go?

The thrill of victory and oh the agony of defeat! But just because contestants didn't win on American Idol doesn't mean that they have blown their chance to fame and fortune! Take a look at these examples:
Chris Daughtry from season five was given a record deal by RCA records after his elimination American Idol. He formed a band called Daughtry and this self-titled debut album sold more than one million copies after just five weeks of release, thereby making it the fastest selling debut album in rock history. Chris Daughtry is now the third most successful American Idol contestant in terms of record sales, falling behind Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
Mario Vazquez from season four made it into the top 12 only to drop out for "family reasons." In 2005, he signed with Arista Records and in September 2006 he released his self-titled debut album and the single, Gallery, peaked at 35 on the charts.
Robyn Troup from season six didn't even make the top 24 and she won the "My Grammy Moment" contest to perform live with Justin Timberlake at the Grammys and to top it off, she signed a deal with Timberlake's production company!
Then there are those who tried out for American Idol that didn't get the famous "golden ticket" along with hearing the words, "You're going to Hollywood baby!"Ashley Quarles, a 2009 finalist for American Idol in Atlanta, Georgia is making quite a name for herself. Ashley, who also made it to the finals for The Colgate Country Showdown in 2010, was just announced the monthly winner of an online talent competition by uploading a video of herself singing.
Ashley's video received the most votes for the month of April making her the winner of 1,000 dollars along with the opportunity for her video to be seen by who has written and produced for select contestants of American Idol from 2003 to 2007.
Maybe you might be a little broken hearted because you've been trying to make a name for yourself, but you just keep missing the mark. Or maybe you don't have the money or the time to get to an American Idol audition (not to mention having to wait in those long lines!)
Why not do what Ashley did and enter an online singing competition? Invite some friends over, get all glammed up and pull out the karaoke machine! You can take turns recording each other and enter your best performances! You might already be on top of your game and have a few videos of yourself already on YouTube that you could use. How do you think Justin Bieber got discovered?

For example, when it comes to the good old surf rock of the 50's as well as the Grunge rock of the late 80's and early 90's, the Fender Jaguar was the axe of choice. Its clean tone was perfect for that good old surf vibe and we you soup it up with distortion; it becomes the perfect weapon for grunge.
