As you may recall from a previous article I had chosen to visit the Peninsula Gallery located in Lewis Delaware for a project in my art class. This is a small privately owned gallery which specializes in exhibiting the art work of many eastern shore artists. This provides an excellent occasion for the particular artists to possibly sell their work to tourists from out-of-state which arrive to view the artists work.
I initially chose this small shop to report on due to its location. First off, the location is along our shore line in southern Delaware and is known for its artistic atmosphere. Many artists, both known and unknown visit our Rehoboth-Lewis area annually. This opens up many avenues for surveying worthwhile art work. In addition, the gallery was not for from the city where I resided making it very convenient to attend.
This was the first time I had ever attended this gallery and eventually I walked away with two new friends who were the owners and operators of the location. The proprietors, Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron were sociable hosts, as I casually roamed their premises and they often offered advice when needed. They were both very artistically educated in the field of art and were pleasant to converse with.
The interior of the gallery was laid out similar to what one would discover in a small home. As you wandered from one room to the other in search of visual adventures it was a pleasant surprise at some of the art found. There were four major sections of the gallery however only two were to apply to my assignment, the general art work area and the featured artist exhibit area. The remaining locations within the gallery were reserved for the owners frame business and their painting restoration service.
I think the best part of the visit other than the art work which hung upon the wall was the friendly atmosphere offered to newcomers as you first enter through the doorway. It is always good to be greeted with a warm smile and a congenial "Can I help you find anything?" I was at first taken back by the small size of the gallery but that shock quickly past as I investigated the works hanging on the walls. I found that even though the gallery may have been small in size it was large in quality art material.
I admit I was a bit disappointed with not being able to see the Frank Schoonover exhibit of which I had originally planned to report on. Unfortunately, the art work had not yet arrived and I was forced to select an alternative artist for my review. Walking from room to room I could see the changes of topics from one artist to another. In one room we may have seascapes while in another we witness the busy activities associated with "Small Town USA".
Since I was somewhat of a modern abstract artist I decided to question the owner on the lack of any sort of modern style art hanging in the gallery. He informed me that due to the lack of a market for that type of work they usually did not provide space for them. My eventual selection was with some recent works by Howard Eberle. Although I was not familiar with this artists work, one watercolor painting in particular caught my attention. It was a simple painting which provided a measure of space combined with structured composition. I enjoyed the shadow and light effects that he accomplished so well. The title of this work of art which attracted my eye was referred to as "Sunset Bay".
"Sunset Bay" is a small two by three feet watercolor painting featuring a beach scene with white sand in the foreground accented by a receding circular sun. You could ready realize that the painting was displaying an evening view of the ocean as the sun slowly descends into the horizon. The artist has skillfully shown the horizon in complimentary colors and shades to balance the remainder of the canvas.
A beach chair in total black without adornment is in view within the foreground revealing the skills of the artist in contrasting the various shades of light and dark. As I viewed the painting from across the room my eyes immediately made their way to the declining sun sitting peacefully on the vivid horizon. Mr. Eberle has managed to successfully combine the straight lines of his beach chair to the curvatures of the fading sun. As the parallel lines from the horizon blend in with the remaining portions of the painting, one is afforded a rare feeling of peace and tranquility.
I guess the most redeeming factors of "Sunset Bay" was the nostalgic feelings which it brought back to me from my younger years as I myself would sit silently on the sandy beach listening to the sea gulls overhead and observing the sun slowly departing for the day. For those who would like to see some additional work from the gallery you can visit their website on the internet (Boyd-Heron, n.d.). I have all intentions of returning to the gallery at some future date to view additional works found there such as that offered by Tara Funk Grime and Frank Schoonover.

A Recap of My Gallery Visit
Four Evil Devil Fancy Dress Costume Ideas
Become the evil villain of the party this Halloween, the lord of the underworld, and the king of hell. There are few costumes that offer you as much fun as a devil fancy dress costume. You can be all powerful and have every excuse to let your dark side out a bit at your next fancy dress party.
You can't go far wrong with a good devil costume - and they come in such variety. Easy to make yourself, or to buy you have a million choices of devil-style from any costume store. Here are some great ideas to get you going:
1. Devil King Fancy Dress
Just go for it and get or make the most dramatic devil costume possible - this means the full shebang. You want sweeping cloak - preferably bat wing shaped. With red or black-lined insides. Big enough to wrap yourself in and stand in dark corners menacing people before leaping out with a sinister 'Muahahaha!'
Black trousers are fine, with black shoes. And a blood red waistcoat is always a good idea. Around your neck some sort of high collar and the strap for your cloak. And of course a must is a very, very high collar! Now the defining element of any good devil costume is the devil horns, so make sure they are as big as possible! Plus a pale and pasty complexion, if you're not naturally like this a little makeup will do the trick.
And of course some fang s can be good too - but you don't want people to mistake you for a vampire. A big scary devil's fork will clear up that possible mistake.
2. Sinister Devil
You might want to play it down a bit but be much scarier. Darker face paint is the key, with dark brooding eyes and longer horns - twisted if possible. A frilly neck and chest piece, like an evil pre-revolution French aristocrat would make a great touch.
3. Devil Queen
There's no reason why only guys can enjoy being the devil! Lady devils can be just as powerful and sinister, with a touch of sexy thrown into the mix.
The greatest devil queen costumes use a full sweeping gown, a great big dress. Blood red, with black frills. You want the material of the arms to flare out dramatically, and of curse a high devil's collar framing a powerful and scary face. The more dramatic the make up the better, don't hold back on the rouge. And the horns must be long and scary.
4. Devil's Temptress
The other choice for ladies is to become the very devil's temptress. Sent by the lord of Hades himself to tempt the good, and drag them down to hell. This costume style offers unlimited option s for sexiness, just make sure it is as red and black as possible. With horns and black lace - and you can't go far wrong.

All About Fashion Modelling
Fashion modeling is one of the most popular and one of the richest industries in the world at present. Each country has their own fashion trends and designs, and fashion modeling is the art of wearing those designs and displaying them to the girl. Fashion models are professionally trained artists who know how to catwalk and carry themselves gracefully across the ramp. These models are generally selected on the basis of a criterion. This criterion is set by the modeling agency. Models are regarded as the face of the fashion demonstrating agency. All the clothes that are designed by the designers in a fashion agency are adorned by the models and shown to the world in fashion shows.
The reason why the fashion industry is booming all the time is due to the changes in the fashion trends. Fashion tends to rapidly evolve during the passage of time. People tend to wear different kinds of clothes in winters and in summers, so usually new dresses are introduced in the market whenever a change of season is taking place. However, different fashion agencies tend to introduce different designs, so with the help of fashion modeling techniques, they introduce these designs in the market and showcase them for the general market.
In some fashion shows, general public can attend as well, but usually, only invitees are welcome. Before applying for fashion modeling, you should fulfill a certain list of requirements. These generally range from a slim and a sleek body, as well as a good figure and a pretty outlook. Generally, the majority of the fashion market is focused on women's fashion, as that is the niche in which the larger amount of innovation is allowed. Men's fashion is also increasing in trends and designs, but mainly these are generally restrictive. Secondly, it is a general concept that women are more in to fashion than men, which is why designers usually concentrate their focus on female fashion.
Each country has their own different trends of fashion designs, which is why fashion designs vary from place to place. However, there are some very popular designers that have made a huge name for themselves in the fashion agency. Names such as Versace, Gucci, Louis Vuitton are extremely popular all over the world, and they sell off some of the most expensive dresses. They house both female and male clothing, and have outlets throughout the world in various countries.

How CDs Are Made
Today, CDs are such commonplace objects, many of us cannot even remember a time when they did not exist. But behind these ordinary looking discs is a long history of development and a production process based on ingenious technology that was way ahead of its time.
Making a CD
The process of CD creation begins with a single master disc. This original disc is made of glass and is designed to withstand the pressures of replication. This disc is cleaned with deionized water and a fine brush, then it is left to dry before photoresistant chemicals are spread on its surface.
After these procedures, the master disc is placed into a machine that will engrave data onto it. Coatings of nickel and vanadium are applied to obtain a die.
This die will be used to make copies of the master disc.
The plastic compact discs are made using a hydraulic press. Polycarbonate plastic granules pass into the preheated press until it liquefies. The plastic is then injected into the die to create a translucent disc. This disc is then left to cool until the plastic hardens.
After the master CD is replicated, a thin coating of aluminum is applied on the copies. This ensures that the data on the discs could be read. A coat of varnish is also applied to protect the discs against scratches.
Once the varnish dries, silkscreen engraving could be printed on the surface of the discs. The discs are packaged and sent to the market.
How the CD began
The first compact discs were invented in 1965, when inventor James Russell thought of storing information in a light-sensitive plate instead of the black vinyl hole-punched discs that were used to store music at that time. His product was patented in 1970 - but the idea was too advanced for his time, and it did not sell.
However, in the 1970s, Sony and Philips got interested in the idea and bought licenses from Russell. In September 1976, Sony made its first public demonstration of the optical digital audio disc, while Philips first displayed its product on March 8, 1979.
With these electronic giants supporting it, the CDs market potential was immediately realized. To accelerate the development of a marketable version of the CD, Sony and Philips decided to work together to set the standards of the compact disc and its player.
It took a year of trial and error before the first commercial compact disc came out. The Laserdisc - a 30cm version of the CD as we know it now - became the blueprint for the 12cm compact disc's manufacturing process. Philips worked on prolonging the compact disc's playing time and improved its resistance to scratching. Meanwhile, Sony created the player that would read the discs.
In 1982, Billy Joel's 52nd Street became the first album to be released in CD format. Three years later, Dire Straight's Brother's in Arms became the first CD album to sell more than a million pieces.
The compact disc then went on beyond its original purpose of storing and playing high quality music. It became the medium for holding computer software. As early as 1990, it became possible to write computer data in a compact disc.
Soon, the CDs effects on magnetic storage devices such as cassette tapes and VCDs became felt. Ten years after CDs became rewritable, cassette tapes disappeared from the market almost completely.

Tubes / Valves for Guitar Amplifiers: List of Worldwide Brands and Manufacturers
This article presents a list of the worldwide brands and manufacturers of tubes / valves used in guitar amplifiers. Since the words tube and valve are synonyms for the same device, tube most used in the United States and valve in Great Britain, I will use tube in the article.
First of all, some clarifies are necessary in order to understand the actual situation of this niche world. There are many brands in the market and manufacturers in the world. As a consequence of many "buy and sell" operations made in the past years, today some factories produce tubes models labeled with different brands, and you can buy the same device with a different name or brand according to which part of the world you live. The simplest way to approach the market is identifying the various tubes models by brand, and this article is a list of tubes brands with details about the manufacturers that produce them.
Another clarify is necessary about Svetlana, a common female name in Russia that creates confusion because it was used in the past for competing devices that generated legal actions. Actually in the market there are two different series of tubes that are often confused when named as Svetlana only, but can be identifiable in this way:
The last clarify is about the brands owned by New Sensor Corporation, an American company: they own the brands Sovtek and Electro-Harmonix plus the rights on Svetlana "S" logo one for the USA and Canada. Moreover, they produce and sell even Mullard New Production and Tung-Sol New Production tubes.
And now, the list:
JJ Electronic - Slovak Republic
They began production of vacuum tubes in 1994, and today they have an assortment of more than 20 models. Formerly known as Tesla, JJ Electronic tubes are made on some of the original European equipment that was used in the heyday. They produce also tube amplifiers and electrolytic and polypropylene capacitors.
On their website is possible to download some technical informations, like tubes data-sheets.
Sovtek - Russia
Sovtek originally was a Russian factory and brand, but nowadays it is an American owned brand of New Sensor Corporation.
Sovtek tubes are produced by Reflector Co. factory in Saratov, Russia, together with Tung-Sol New Production, Electro-Harmonix, Mullard New Production and Svetlana "S" logo ones.
These tubes are distributed among the others by TubeDepot that on its website states: these tubes are used by more manufacturers than any other tube made.

Svetlana "S" logo - Saratov, Russia
New Sensor Corporation has the exclusive right to use the name Svetlana for the USA and Canada markets only.

Hip Hop Music and the Youth Connection
Since hip hop music is such a youthful form of music, there has always been speculation about how it affects the youth of our country. So many people write so many things and talk so much about the hip hop culture. Often, it is the negative that is highlighted; the "ill-effects" are mentioned. But it all isn't as bad as it looks. I am very impressed with motivational rapper Marcus Parker's words when he explained that rap music is about everything that happens out in the streets. It portrays the life outside one's comfort zone.
The streets are no heavens. It is the hard life; the rough life and many a times the life we are not accustomed with. Most of the artists who rise to fame come from such modest backgrounds. Many of the artists face prison-time and indulge in abuses because they aren't from the well-kept, well-educated and 'fortunate' backgrounds like all those of reading this article. Yes, it is a fact that most of the rappers still live the hard life. In fact, we can understand this from the very origin of this genre; it stemmed from ghetto and gang communities of youngsters in the troubled streets of Africa, in the 1980s. Rap lyrics have content derived from people who face these circumstances and the things that are important to them. These themes may, hence, seem inappropriate to the sophisticated mind. But when you analyze this music from the writer's point of view and the listener's perception you will understand the 'connection'.
The connection between a rapper and his fan is not just the instrumental and the rhythm; but also the experience and feeling. It is the emotion that creates the strong bond and the fan-following. When a rapper raps about sexuality, it is perhaps something that the youngster can understand. Certainly the explicit content isn't the best flavor but we must wake up to the fact that physicality is an integral part of our social being. Beside, trying to apprehend what your son or daughter appreciates will help you connect with them better. There are also songs that I like although they may not represent me as a person. I like hip hop rap songs for their beats; I may not agree with the lyric but I can certainly enjoy the music.
Further exploring the genre will introduce you to various forms of music that the industry offers. There is Jazz-rap and Conscious Hip Hop music and many other forms which will uplift the spirit and inspire far beyond. Even Underground hip-hop is finding a greater audience with platforms offered by the World Wide Web today. So, why should we be intimidated or apprehensive? Music does inspire, and when it does not; it merely entertains. Negative does not influence as strongly as the positive.
As adults, it is important to be aware of what our children are going through as well as give them the space to explore their worlds. We have all passed through that phase and grown to be who we are. In the end, a healthy upbringing will always overpower any superficial influence. Let the music play because it is only music and not an instruction for life!

Choosing Music for Your Event
Selecting the right sort of live music for an event is just as crucial a decision as the venue, catering style and the time of day. Live music creates an ambience and memorable atmosphere if correctly chosen. We all want events to be a success, so here are my top tips for ensuring you choose the right music for your event.
• Type of event: If you are organising a reception with a 'networking' element to it, or a dinner where people wish to speak to each other, loud music isn't going to work. On the other hand, after dinner entertainment where guests want to dance will require a band playing louder music.
• Venue: The size of the venue is crucial. A harpist playing in a huge hall with high ceilings is likely to be lost. Likewise a large band playing in a small room is going to be overpowering, with the music sound being 'muddied'. Choose the size of your musical ensemble and instruments based on the size of your room. Also, if you have a space with two or more rooms, you will need to consider where to locate the musicians, so that they can be heard.
• Size of the event: A small event where there are 20 guests is unlikely to require as loud background music as at a larger event. However, it is down to personal taste as to whether a large band is required later on!
• Theme of the event: There are plenty of musical styles that theme an event just as much as dressing a venue or servicing specific food. A steel band playing as guests arrive or a Scottish Piper serenading guests creates an impact as people arrive. Flamenco musicians and dancers for after dinner entertainment or a jazz band playing will enhance an event creating a memorable ambience. When you are researching a themed event, include music as well as the food; it makes a huge difference to the event.
• Time of day: During the day, most events involve guests wishing to speak to each other and to meet new people. Loud music doesn't work in those situations. As the evening progresses, guests relax and they might consider dancing. They have spoken to their friends and associates and want to let their hair down. As a rule, as the evening progresses, the volume and energy of the music should increase.
• Acoustic of the venue: Some venues are 'louder' than others. Rooms with plenty of fabric and wood absorb sound better than venues with hard or metal surfaces - where the sound tends to echo more. The latter is a challenge generally because people's voices will also echo!
• Location: Is the event taking place inside or outside? If it is outside, you will need to consider where to place the musicians. Many musicians that play valuable instruments will need to be out of direct sunlight and rain. Electrical equipment also needs to be kept out of the rain. Acoustic instruments such as string quartets and harps will need to be located next to a wall, so that the sound will carry.
• Volume of music and restrictions: A number of venues have restrictions on the level of volume. It is worthwhile checking this when you choose the venue. Some venues allow recorded music but not live music; however I would argue that acoustic instruments such as guitar, harp or string quartet could be a lower decibel reading than a CD!
• Space available: If there is limited space, you will be restricted in the size of ensemble you choose. As a rule, instruments that take up most space are grand pianos. Other instruments can be relatively close to each other and they take up less space than you expect. My advice would be to calculate the area available and ask the musicians if they can perform within that area.
• Instruments available: If there is a Steinway Grand piano available at the venue, it seems a shame not to use it! Pianists could play classical/crossover music, or a jazz pianist would be thrilled to perform on it!
• Age groups: As a rule of thumb, as we get older, we appreciate loud music less. Also, different age groups have varied tastes. We always recommend discussing the music with the musicians and to agree a range of musical styles before the event to suit different tastes. A dance band would offer music "From the 60s to the noughties" to cover every taste.
Live Music at an event, and more crucially, choosing the right music, makes a huge difference to the success of an event. Ask the right questions of your music suppliers; ask yourself what role you wish the musicians to play at the event, and choose wisely! Good luck!!

New Song Ideas and Where to Find Them
Coming up with new song ideas can be one of the most difficult aspects of songwriting. It's not always easy to find something interesting to write a song about. Here are some songwriting tips that will help to get the creative juices flowing!
1. Read a Good Book
Or watch a movie! Anything that is moving or thought-provoking can do the trick. Take the story you just saw or read about and distill it down to its essence. This is a task unto itself and is where the rewrite comes into play. But you will have conquered one of the hardest steps of writing a song: Finding something to write about! You don't even have to write about the whole story. Choose one aspect of it, or describe the nature of the relationship between two of the characters.
2. Are You Playing Around?
Just noodling around with a melody on the guitar or piano can trigger some great song ideas. I always prefer to start with melody anyway, so this is a method that tends to work well for me. To keep things fresh try playing and writing a song in a different tuning or a key you don't normally play in. This will help to spark your creativity and it will keep you excited because those unfamiliar chords will sound so new to you.
3. Good Morning Pages
In Julia Cameron's book The Artist's Way, she suggests adopting the practice of writing three pages of whatever pops into your head right after you wake up each morning. She calls them Morning Pages. You needn't worry about whether or not they make any sense; just write them. When you read over them later you may be surprised at what jumps out at you. I have come up with many good song ideas this way.
4. Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Keep your ears open for interesting phrases when you're out and about. You never know when or where you'll hear one but you'll know it when you do. A great line can practically write a song all by itself. However, don't overlook the common or the cliché. "It's Complicated" and "See You Around" aren't bad song titles.
5. What Lies Beneath
Take some time to ponder the meaning of life. You don't have to get all religious (but you can if that's your thing). Try to catch a glimpse behind the curtain. What's it all about? The so-called "coincidences" we all experience, the extra special connection you share with that particular person. Write a song about these things! The mystery of our existence is a gold mine of great song ideas.
6. Love of My Life
This one's obvious! Writing a song about your significant other is always a great idea. Love songs will always be the most popular of all song ideas. They will never go out of fashion and they will always take on a special meaning for anyone who has ever been in love. Write a song for the special love of your life. Take your time and make it a good one. It will bring you closer and you will have a great love song in your repertoire. I'm going to go and write a song for the special love of my life. It's going to be a good one.
7. Go Shopping
Yes, you read that right! "But what does going shopping have to do with songwriting?" you ask. Nothing! Sometimes you just have to get away and treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. Pamper yourself with a facial. We have to remember that we are people first. We must get out there and live. Go for a hike in the woods and soak in all of the sights and sounds. Go to the local museum and learn something new about how we used to live. The deeper our knowledge and the richer our experiences, the more we have to draw on when writing a song. Don't neglect this last tip. It may be the most important one of all. Happy writing!

Opera Music - The First Operas
Opera is a very old form of musical entertainment. The word opera is from the Italian language and translates to mean work or labor. Classical opera is a musical production that combines a musical score with a libretto (dramatic work or written storyline). An opera combines many different elements including acting, singing, dancing, costumes and music.
The very first opera is often considered to be Dafne. Jacopo Peri composed this production with contributions from Giulio Caccini. Ottavio Rinuccini wrote the libretto. It made its debut as a private event in 1597, in Florence at the Plazzo Corsdi. The concept behind the production was to bring alive the classic Greek tragedy. Many of the early operas take their story lines and ideas from Greek literature. Although, this dramatic work was to begin a completely new form of musical genre, the musical score has virtually disappeared.
Dafne was actually not written for an orchestra but for a much smaller ensemble. It composed for lute, archlute, harpsichord, viol and triple flute. The libretto written was the story of the god Apollo falling deeply in love with the nymph Dafne.
Peri and Rinuccini's showing of Dafne was a huge success and was so well liked that they were asked to write a second work using the same format. Their second joint effort was to a commissioned piece to celebrate the marriage of Henri IV and Marie de Medici. This musical creation was entitled L'Euridice.
L'Euridice was preformed for the first time in 1600. Peri himself preformed the lead role in this production. The story of this opera is once again Greek in origin. It revolves around the god Orpheus and his search for his beloved Euridice. Euridice, who is actually a nymph, was taken to the underworld and Orpheus is trying to get her back.
These two operas were the first time that audiences were introduced to the recitative. There are many times during a performance where a cast member has to convey what they are thinking or feeling to the audience. Rather than trying to set this portion of the production to a song, the actor is given the liberty to sing but uses an almost conversational tone. There is usually music in the background, but the words are not set to it. The other major differences are that in a song there are normally choruses and repeating portions. This does not happen in the recitative. The emphasis here is to move the action of the play forward.
These two productions would herald the beginning of a completely new form of art. Like all art forms, there are many variations of opera. Through the years, opera has changed and evolved greatly. Both the composers and the writers take many liberties to make their productions more appealing to the audience.

Common Ways That You Could Get To Listen To Online Music
Nowadays, people really enjoy listening to music, whether it is with traditional CD's, iPods, or even on the internet. There are many websites that offer online music selections. Most of the high quality tracks come from websites that let you pay for the service. There are also some websites that let you download songs for free, but these are usually from the independent artists. You could also listen to music online using internet radio. However, the disadvantage with this type of music is that you would only get to listen to the tracks. You won't be able to save them.
If you own an iPod, probably one of the best sources that you could get your music is on Apple's own iTunes store. They have a great selection of the most popular artists, and they even have some tracks that you could only get exclusively from them. You could buy tracks individually or get them by album. The prices of the songs are really affordable, and you can get to keep the songs after you download them.
Another great place where you could get online music is emusic.com. The website requires you to become a member, but you could get the songs at half the price there compared to iTunes and other music download services. They also have great promos when you become a member, like free song downloads. You could even have a trial of their membership and download several songs. If you don't like to be a member, you could cancel their membership anytime and still keep the songs.
If you just want to listen to music online and not download it to your computer, you could also try using internet radio services. There are many internet radio providers available, and most of these provide great selections of music. Some of these internet radio stations include Yahoo! Music Radio and AOL Radio. These online radio stations are free for users to listen to. Users can get to choose which genre of music that they will be listening to, and the services play music based on the selection of the user.
Whether you download your music online or listen to it with web streaming services, there are some limitations that you have to deal with. If you download your music, most online stores offer only one type of file format for your song. Many music labels do not allow the songs to be sold in the common MP3 format, and songs that are encoded in MP3 are not sold at higher bit rates. There are also several stores that use DRM technologies, which limit the use of the music on certain devices and media players. Online radio is also limited by geographical restrictions, where there may be issues in licensing.
There are many other options if you want to be able to get and listen to online music. Downloading from the music stores is one of the most common ways to get music online. If you want to just listen to new music, however, internet radio is the way to go. You can get to listen to many different tracks all for free.
