Best Electric Guitar

Best Electric Guitar - is there really such a thing? There are many different criteria to consider when choosing an electric guitar. First off, is the guitar for you or is it a present for someone else? Also, what is "best" for one person may not be the ideal solution for another. So, for the purposes of this discussion, I'll assume you want to choose the best guitar for yourself to play. I'll also assume that you can play guitar to a very basic standard.
When determining the best electric guitar for your style of play it is likely that you'll need to set a budget. Very few people can afford a Gibson Les Paul Custom or a vintage Fender or Gretsch. However, you can still find excellent electric guitars for less than $500. Rather than settle for second best, I'd suggest saving up to purchase the guitar you really want.
Probably the most important factor to consider when homing in on a guitar is how it feels when playing it. Its "playability" can only be judged by practicing with the instrument before you buy it. You should consider:
- how your hands fit around the guitar's neck
- the neck's width and curvature
- how smooth the neck is to navigate
Different people have different sizes and shapes of hand and fingers so a guitar's playability will vary from one person to another. When choosing the best electric guitar to play it's very important to consider its playability because if you are a serious musician you're likely to be playing the instrument a great deal.
The guitar's tonal quality is another important consideration when choosing the best electric guitar for you to play. Tone is partially dictated by the material that is used to construct the guitar's body. For example, you can find guitars made from either mahogany, alder or basswood. Mahogany is much heavier than alder which is itself heavier than basswood. Each will have different tonal characteristics. Also, the weight of the guitar becomes an important factor if you need to stand on stage with it around your neck for long periods of time.
In addition, the type, number and positioning of pickups will have a direct influence on tonal quality. Single coil pickups sound quite different to Humbucker pickups.
Playability and tonal quality are rather subjective, so be sure to try out guitars at your local music store before finding out where you can purchase for the best price the best electric guitar.
